LecMate is a study aid. It records a lecture on your computer, transcribes it on your device, and can translate that transcript and generate notes from it and from materials you provide.
It is not a transcription service we operate for you, and it is not a substitute for attending and understanding your course.
Supported platform: macOS 14 or later on Apple Silicon. Other platforms may be offered later.
One account per person, with a valid email address. You must be at least 16.
Recording and on-device transcription work without an account. Translation, AI notes and paid features require one. Keep your sign-in details to yourself; you are responsible for what happens under your account.
LecMate has three plans: Free, Pro and Max.
Prices are in US dollars. Where we show an Australian dollar amount we convert at 1 USD = 1.5 AUD as a guide; the amount your bank or card issuer charges may differ slightly because of exchange rates and their fees. Prices are shown before you buy, and include any tax we are required to charge.
Subscriptions renew each month until you cancel. Cancel at any time in the billing portal; cancellation takes effect at the end of the period you have paid for. Refunds are covered by our Refund Policy. Nothing in these terms limits the rights you have under the Australian Consumer Law.
When your quota runs out, we reduce the service rather than cutting you off mid-lecture: translation may switch to a cheaper model or pause, and you can carry on recording. Recording and the content already on your computer are never blocked by quota.
Recording consent. Get whatever permission your university's policies and your local law require before recording a lecture or any person. You, not we, are responsible for recording lawfully.
Course materials. Material you import from Canvas, Moodle or anywhere else is for your own study. Respect your university's rules and the rights of whoever owns the material.
Academic integrity. Translation, AI notes and writing help are study aids. Follow your institution's rules about using AI in assessed work. LecMate can keep a record of when AI assistance was used, but following the rules is your responsibility.
Fair use of the service. Do not share or resell your account, work around paid limits, automate the service beyond ordinary personal use, or attack the service or other users.

These features are optional. Not using them costs you nothing else in the app.
Translations, notes and writing help are produced by AI and can be wrong. They are aids, not a record of what was said, and not a substitute for understanding your course. Notes are generated only from your own transcript and the materials you provide. Check anything that matters.
Your recordings, transcripts, notes and materials are yours, and they stay on your computer. You grant us only the limited permission needed to send the text you submit to an AI provider so we can answer that request. We claim no ownership of your content and we do not use it to train models.
Translation and AI notes need an internet connection and third-party AI providers. We may replace a model with an equivalent one.
Safety controls. The app checks a signed file when it starts. That file lets us switch a feature off remotely, for example when a provider is failing or a bug is found. These controls can only restrict features. They can never switch on something you turned off, and they never touch the content on your computer.
Versions. Older versions of the app may stop working with our services when we retire an interface they depend on. The app tells you when an update is needed.
We may change or withdraw features with reasonable notice. If we withdraw a paid feature and cannot offer an equivalent, we will refund the unused part of what you have paid for it.
We may suspend or close an account for non-payment after a grace period, for abuse, or for breaking these terms. Where it is reasonable to do so, we will tell you first and give you a chance to fix the problem.
You can delete your account at any time. Content on your computer stays there and is unaffected.
Our services come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or modifies those guarantees.
To the extent the law allows, our total liability arising out of or in connection with LecMate is limited to the fees you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, and we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, loss of profits, or loss of data that you could have avoided by keeping your own copies.
We are not responsible for a recording you were not entitled to make, or for how you use AI output in assessed work.
We will tell you in the app before a material change takes effect, and we will update the date at the top. Continuing to use LecMate after that means you accept the updated terms.
